EXCEL Layered Graphic Display: THIS ASSIGNMENT CAN MAKE A NICE SUPPLEMENT TO YOUR RESUME IF YOU DO A GOOD JOB!!!

Due NOVEMBER 6, 2013

CLASS EXAMPLE

EXCEL FILE FROM CLASS

Step #1 - Choose One of the Stocks You Purchased In Your Stock Market Game Portfolio.  Each student in the group must choose a different stock.

Step #2 - From the Federal Reserve and Bureau of Labor Statistics sources, choose one data base for a variable that would be expected to positively or negatively influence the price of your chosen stock.  Choose data that is reported in a monthly format.  Use the seasonally adjusted data when it's available, and DO NOT use any data listed as an "Index".  Save the Excel spreadsheet with all the descriptive inormation at the top of the spreadsheet left intact, and keep the data values for January 2013 - September 2013.

Using this macroeconomic data, create a column chart that displays this data for the preceding 12 months.  Use the same Excel elements as employed in Project #2.

Step #3 - Using Charts.com, identify the monthly closing prices for 2013 (match the months for which you obtained macroeconomic data in Step #2.

Step #4 - Create a line graph with markers using your stock's monthly closing prices obtained in Step #3.  Use the macroeconomic column chart from Step #2 as the background fill for the plot area.  Your graphic display should effectively communicate a statistical message where the change in the macroeconomic variable values can be compared with the changes in your stock's prices over the last year.  Consider this comparison as your primary message. Make your display  engaging and effective.

Like your previous display in Project #2, the best displays will:

 Choose a color scheme that blends aesthetically;

Incorporate pictures in place of the generic default  colors;

Use 3-D in bars, plot area, chart area, and data labels to draw attention to the stars of the show "the data";

Include horizontal and vertical axes titles, a chart title, legends, and data labels  necessary to interprete the display on its own merits;

Exclude title, and legends that are redundant; and

Change font size, font style, font color, text box fill, text box 3-D.

 Step #5 -  Present your graphic display on a single page (use Word).   Embellish your presentation with some wordart, page borders, text box decoration, and jpegs of pictures associated with your company (corporate brand logos, advertising excerpts,  key products etc.).

Step #6 -  Complete the self-assessment page and score as directed.  Attach this self assessment page and the student/teacher assessment page to the front of your work.
