INSTRUCTIONS FOR DOWNLOAD & USE

We have discovered the following solutions when having log in problems.

PC Users - Always use Internet Explorer to access vWorkspace.

ALL USERS -It is important to log out twice when you finish using vWorkspace.  First log out of the school's server window just like when you are at school.  Then log out of the log in window, look in the upper right hand corner of the screen for the log out tab.  If you don't see the log out tab, click on the log in tab and the log out tab will likely appear.

If you don't log out properly, you will have trouble logging in the next time you want to use vWokspace.  If you have trouble logging in, click on the log out tab.  Then try again to log in.  (That's enough logs to build a cabin.)

Mac Users - vWorkspace is READY FOR THE MAC HEADS!!  Use Safari as the browser to access vWorkspace.  Download the program and proceed to log in.   For owners of newer macs, note that the program may open in another desktop.

Here's your assignment (worth 30 points).  On a sheet of notebook paper, neatly answer the following questions.  All questions should be answered:  Yes or No.  If no, describe the problem.  Also, take a screen shot of any error messages.

#1 - Were you able to download the program successfully?

#2 - Are you able to log onto this downloaded site using your school ID and password?

#3 - Can you log onto Excel 2010 while on the site?

#4 - Can you access Word while on the site?

#5 - Can you access Internet Explorer while on the site?

#6 - While on Interner Explorer, access the Business Statistics web site and click on this link  Answers EXCEL Spreadsheet  .  6A. Does it open?  6B. Can you open the function (formula) boxes to review the inputs used in calculating present values, payments and future values?

WEEK  8

FRIDAY QUIZ 10/05: HERE's THE QUIZ WORKBOOK!!!! STUDY UP & GET 100%.

THERE IS EVEN A BONUS PROBLEM!!!!

Project #2 Corporate Graphic Displays: THIS ASSIGNMENT CAN MAKE A NICE SUPPLEMENT TO YOUR RESUME IF YOU DO A GOOD JOB!!!

Graphic Display #1: Display Type Stays The Same; Due October 12, 2012

Graphic Display #3: Display Type Changes; Due October 19, 2012

Step #1 - Extract Two Graphic Displays From Corporate Annual Reports.  One display may be a table from the annual report.  At least one display must be graphic (e.g. pie chart, bar chart, time series etc.)

Step #2 - Extract all data and labels shown in the two original displays.

Step #3 - Create data table(s) in Excel using  the data and labels extracted in Step #2.   Be careful to copy the data exactly as it's reported in the original display.  Deductions will be made for transcription errors.   If you are having trouble organizing the data into a table, review the examples in the Excel Workbook file shown under Step#4.

Step #4 - Use Excel to create two revised displays that communicate the corporate message in a more engaging and effective manner.   In the first revised display, you will NOT change type of graphic display (e.g. pie chart stays a pie chart) but will change the color scheme, incorporate pictures etc.  In the second graphic display, you WILL change the type of display as well as modifying its "look".

Examples of corporate displays and revised displays created in Excel are shown in the links below.  These changes will be discussed in class.  An Excel workbook has been included so students may view the Excel settings used to create these visual effects.

Step #5 -  Present your work on a single page.  Show the "Original Display From Annual Report" (extracted using the Snipping Tool) and  the "Revised Display" (file copied as picture as shown in class).

Step #6 -  Write a caption in your one-page presentation that describes what you changed and how these modifications make your revised display more engaging and a better communication device.  This caption should be a paragraph long (not just one sentence, three sentences are likely sufficient.)  Like all good writing, this paragraph should describe specifics and avoid vague references (e.g. "I changed the color.".

Step #7 -  Complete the self-assessment page and score as directed.  Attach this self assessment page and the student/teacher assessment page to the front of your work.  USE YOUR STUDENT ID#, DO NOT WRITE YOUR NAME.    Note that you will NOT use scoring sheet number two.

HASHING OUT YOUR IDEAS FOR PROPOSED CHANGES,

INTERPRETATION OF FINANCIAL TERMS YOU DO NOT KNOW,

PROBLEMS WITH GETTING EXCEL TO DO SOMETHING

ETC ETC ETC.

I WILL BE POSTING DAYS THAT I AM AVAILABLE AFTER SCHOOL FOR THE NEXT FEW WEEKS.   DO YOUR BEST, YOU'LL BE GLAD YOU DID.

WEEK  9

Practice Problems For Midterm #2 Financial Functions Questions

Answers EXCEL Spreadsheet                        Answers PDF Version**

** Note that an error exists in the PDF version for #12.  The calculations shown used 5% of gross annual income for vacancy and collection loss instead of the correct 7% as the question asks.
